Madonna and Child, Mexico 1940
Madonna and Child, Mexico 1940
$150.00
This is a wonderful graphite pencil drawing by REW on card stock. In March of 1940 REW and members of his family traveled to Mexico to be with him as he finished his overseas obligation to the Chaloner Prize. There is no doubt that REW was influenced by what he had seen the previous year during his time in Europe at some of the great art museums in the UK, Belgium, and France. Most likely this is a small homage to the great Madonnas in those museums, but it brings it to the human level of ordinary life in Mexico. Unframed and unsigned, REW catalogue number on the back of #620. Image dimension 8” x 5.25” (Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image.)
